CAFTA

CAFTA... a "free trade" agreement between the US, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and (possibly) the Dominican Republic.

CAFTA...
  • will increase inequality between the common worker and the corporation that will buy him out.
  • will privatize essential public services such as water, health care, education, and energy.
  • will support even more outsourcing while undercutting human rights for the workers who will work.
  • will facilitate pollution by favoring mass, corporate farms.
  • is anti-democratic in its implementation-- it does leave room for public forum and forces countries to abide by US corporately-designed laws.
  • is anti-democratic in its form-- it was written in highly technical writing and will be voted on without being read.
  • will destroy our environment.
  • ties the hands of poor countries.
  • is being actively opposed in north, central, and latin america.
